{"id":26,"date":"2007-06-16T16:58:38","date_gmt":"2007-06-17T00:58:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dlkeur.com\/dlkeur-blog\/2007\/06\/16\/a-sony-saturday\/"},"modified":"2024-07-02T18:38:36","modified_gmt":"2024-07-03T01:38:36","slug":"a-sony-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dlkeur.com\/dlkeur-blog\/grimace-and-giggle\/about-family-friends-students\/a-sony-saturday\/","title":{"rendered":"A Sony Friday; a Sony Saturday, too.&nbsp; *Sigh*"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Husband gets wild hair.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s put all the CDs inside a stereo unit.\u00a0 In fact, let&#8217;s get two or three of these things and put the stuff we mostly listen to on them.<\/p>\n<p>Ah, honey?\u00a0 Let&#8217;s try one.\u00a0 First.\u00a0 If it works, we&#8217;ll think about running them in series.\u00a0 Okay?<\/p>\n<p>Awwwww.\u00a0\u00a0 Yeah.\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 You&#8217;re probably right.<\/p>\n<p>I roll eyes.\u00a0 He gets so enthusiastic, then, when you suggest just a tad bit of self-restraint, it&#8217;s like you dashed cold water on him.\u00a0 But he dries off fast.\u00a0 Good thing.<\/p>\n<p>But.\u00a0 This is going to be a P-R-O-J-E-C-T.\u00a0 With a super capital P.<\/p>\n<p>Hubs BUYS Sony CDP-CX445.\u00a0 It arrives, 2nd day air UPS.\u00a0 I groan when I see, then HEFT, the box.<\/p>\n<p><em>Okaaaaaay<\/em>, I think, <em>brace yourself<\/em>, knowing that means that I&#8217;m going to spend all night, all day, all night, all day again, and probably another all day, helping.\u00a0 There goes the weekend!<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s so excited when he hears it actually got here.\u00a0 On time.\u00a0 In Podunk, Idaho, no less.\u00a0 He races home.\u00a0 He unpacks it.\u00a0 He pulls\u00a0400 CD&#8217;s, stashing the jewel cases in a box. He dumps the Styrofoam packing into the garbage.\u00a0 He hasn&#8217;t yet broken the box down, though, and I have to keep walking around it to help him when he smartly commands, &#8220;Hand me that wire.\u00a0 Hand me that flashlight.\u00a0 Hold this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>P-R-O-J-E-C-T.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s in bliss.<\/p>\n<p>So I finally crash.\u00a0 He stays up till 4AM loading the CD&#8217;s into it.\u00a0 Morning comes.\u00a0 He&#8217;s out of bed in a flash, four hours earlier than usual.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>P-R-O-J-E-C-T.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Will you type the artists, album names, and slot numbers for me into an Excel spreadsheet?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Right.\u00a0 &#8220;Okay,&#8221; I say, hoping it will only take maybe an hour to do.\u00a0 I mean 400 slots is a piece of cake to type.\u00a0 Should only take a little bit of time, right?\u00a0 Because how bad can a piece of electronics slow something down.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>HINT: It takes almost a full minute for the machine to read the Artist and Album label because it first has to laboriously load the CD, taste it, think about it, then decide if it wants to show you the answer.\u00a0 (I start twitching after the first five.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be a basket case after fifty, never mind you might as well call the men in white coats after the full four-hundred.)<\/p>\n<p>We start doing a comedy show to ease the pain as he presses next and I wait patiently like dutiful wife, fingers hovering over keys.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;We get through 200 of them&#8230;in two hours.\u00a0 I&#8217;m about buggy.\u00a0 And&#8230;and&#8230;and&#8230;we&#8217;re halfway through.\u00a0 He does a rah-rah arm pump.\u00a0 I just want to GET DONE.\u00a0 &#8220;And 201?&#8221; I ask.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not reading it,&#8221; says he, which means he has to hit play so we can listen to it to identify artist\/album.\u00a0 And&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>THE MACHINE IS SKIPPING.<\/p>\n<p>We check again.\u00a0 Nope, disc is fine.\u00a0 Change the CD to somewhere else.\u00a0 Nope, disc is fine.\u00a0 Load something else into slot 201.\u00a0 Skips.\u00a0 Ummmm.\u00a0 Go backwards and forwards from 200.\u00a0 Skip.\u00a0 Stops skipping when it is at 189.\u00a0 Everything back of 189 is fine.\u00a0 Everything forward of 189 skips.<\/p>\n<p>Now what?<\/p>\n<p>Call electronic stores.<\/p>\n<p>Call everybody.<\/p>\n<p>And&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>I-Pod.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>No. Not. Never.<\/p>\n<p>And&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;And he&#8217;s still researching &#8220;another solution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So, what are we going to be doing?\u00a0 Tearing this entire house apart again, laboriously loading CD&#8217;s back into their jewel cases, and&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>And&#8230;I don&#8217;t know.<\/p>\n<p>I think I&#8217;ll put on some Dokken on the five CD changer and try to ease my migraine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;I HATE Sony.\u00a0 Have since they started that proprietary nonsense.\u00a0 Then they started that invasive crap.\u00a0 Sony = contemptible.\u00a0 And their electronics SUX a bad egg.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Husband gets wild hair.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s put all the CDs inside a stereo unit.\u00a0 In fact, let&#8217;s get two or three of these things and put the stuff we mostly listen to on them.
