Why No Sex or Profanity?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\"><span class=\"sce_emoji-whatsgoingon\" title=\"whatsgoingon\"><\/span><\/span>People\u2014mostly other authors\u2014ask me: Why clean?\u00a0 Why no sex or profanity?\u00a0 Nobody much asks me why no gore.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So, here&#8217;s why in a nutshell:\u00a0 Because readers, especially me, are tired of dodging the cringe factor, which, as time goes on in entertainment <span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">(be it books, movies, music performances \u2026you name it, and in our culture in general)<\/span>, now strives to reach a higher level of &#8216;shock impact&#8217;, each iteration trying to outdo the previous.\u00a0 It all becomes a race to the bottom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Honestly, sex, gore, and profanity aren&#8217;t necessary for good, solid story.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I used to pride myself on realism.\u00a0 And, yes, especially with the workarounds needed to remove any and all profanity, that can push the credibility off a cliff, because, also honestly, most cops &#8230;most people curse &#8230;unless they come from a very strict upbringing and stick with it.\u00a0 However, as an author, creating story without it is doable.\u00a0 It just takes figuring out another way to deliver the same meaning or effect without losing impact.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There&#8217;s your nut taken out of its shell for the morning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u2014Dawn<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People\u2014mostly other authors\u2014ask me: Why clean?\u00a0 Why no sex or profanity?\u00a0 Nobody much asks me why no gore.
