D. L. Keur, Artist
Most of you know that, along with being an author and muscian, I'm a professional graphic artist. I stopped taking clients when my aging Mom needed me. Since Mom unfortunately decided to pass, now that life is returning to normal, I am starting to take on new clients, again. You'll find my artist website here: https://www.zentao.com/.

LATEST BOOK COVERS FOR CLIENTS
These are the latest book covers I've done that I am permitted to display. They represent about a fifth of the ones I've completed since autumn last year.
A Series Design
Book Cover Help for Author-Artists
Sometimes an author is also an artist, as is the case with Max Teasdale. He created a beautiful cover for his book, but had only created the eBook cover, not what we call a 'full wrap'. He contacted me about doing up a print book version, and, taking his wonderful front cover, I mimicked his style, grabbed some of the bubbles and a tooth, and this was the result:
What my clients say about me!
“stunning work... affordable... easy to work with... patient....”
Just wanted to let you know I received a copy of the printed edition today and it looks fantastic. ...I am really pleased. It could not have turned out any better. Thank you. —Michael Minifie, June 2020
“[It's] a lot of fun working with you.” —Winston Y., May 2020
“D. L. Keur is a renaissance woman for our times and an accomplished author in her own right. She also channels her considerable talent into designing book-cover art for other authors. Since she created the amazing cover-art for my Jena Halpern novel, Blood-Red Mist, I don’t approach new book-cover art without her. She has an innate design sense that brings together all the essential elements into a stunning work of art that grabs readers’ attention while telling a story—perfect. A joy to work with, I can’t recommend her enough.” —Michael Allan Scott, best selling author featured on the NBC Daytime Show, 2019.
“I adore the cover Dawn built for me. I thought I wanted one thing, but, when I saw one of her designs, I fell in love with it. She customized it for me, and it's perfect. Best, my readers love the new look.” —Ari M., April, 2020.
“Impressive and quick.” —Mark T., May, 2020.
“I have a certain look to the books covers I have for my mystery series, but as I finalize my most recent book — women’s genre — I needed something very different. I found Dawn Keur, who doesn’t do “canned” covers, but brings conceptual design to every project to make them stand out. Best yet? She works well with authors to bring a vague idea into something extraordinary and unique. And she’s affordable!” —Laura Belgrave, 2020
“One of the easiest designers to work with I've used yet. Her work inspires me to write more.” —Becky Smith, 2019
“I swear this woman has the patience of a saint. I didn't know what I wanted, but she kept working with me at no extra charge until she came up with something perfect.” —Thomas R., 2019
PREMADE & CUSTOM WORK
UNIQUE PREMADE BOOK COVERS
For the budget-minded, I have a few covers available from which you can choose starting at $29 (USD) and ranging upward from there (payable through PayPal): My book cover catalog.
CUSTOM BOOK COVER DESIGN
If you need a custom design, I do conceptual mockups, my own ideas or yours, and provide an estimate on cost. If you do have an idea in mind, send me a description of what you envision. You can also include links to covers similar to what you desire. Either way, in your email, please include:
- a description of what you envision
- the book's genre and cross-genres,
- any color preferences,
- your book's title and byline plus any subtitle or tagline you'd like to include on the cover.
- Also tell me if you prefer serif, sans-serif, script, or decorative font styles.
- A short synopsis of the book and, if fiction, descriptions of the main characters and any significant elements, events, theme, or symbolism would also help.
To the question, “What genres do you handle?”, my answer is:
Almost everything, as long as what you require for your cover stays within my style.
Specifically, I don't do illustrative figurative covers because I'm not a portrait artist like Mom was, nor do I use Genesis or Poser, which allow you to 'build your own character with just these features, dressed the way you want, doing exactly this'. So, if you're looking for someone to do a regency romance cover or want to depict a scene with specific action and characters, I'm not your artist. Think of the "pulps" from the forties and fifties, think of the Harlequinn romances, and, no, I don't do them. Nor do I do anything sexually explicit. Subtle, classy, and suggestive is fine, though.

MORE INFORMATION & MORE EXAMPLES OF MY BOOK COVER WORK
The first book cover I did after reopening was one for Michael Allan Scott. It's a crime thriller. Then I did two more and and had to revise the first. Since then I've been kept busy doing at least a couple of covers every month.
ALBUM ART FOR MUSICIANS
Yes, I do it, and I used to do a lot of it. I do mock-ups and provide an estimate of cost, but please describe what you want. Any photos you provide must be high quality. Email for specifics and for upload instructions. (I use Dropbox for file transfer). If you have a producer, be SURE to get his or her okay before contacting me.
I don't just create book covers and album art. I do ads, facebook page headers, website graphics and, well, anything requiring art and design. Here, for example, is what is called a QSL card for a HAM radio operator: The entire card is built from various snips and photos brought together to produce something that is personally representative of Dave Caldwell, who pilots everything from helicopters to Learjets, rides Harleys, and, of course, is a HAM radio operator.
